Peter Mulligan
B. Fin Admin
Senior Financial Adviser and Founder
With more than 35 years’ experience in the financial services industry, I’ve built my career around one simple goal – helping people protect their families, build financial security and navigate life’s biggest challenges with confidence.
After finishing university, I spent a year working in Hospitality principally on the Kookaburra Queen at Expo 88 in Brisbane, I began my professional career with Suncorp in Corporate Superannuation before spending 18 months in London, where I gained valuable international experience with leading investment organisations including Solomon Brothers, Mercury Asset Management and Sun Life Canada.
After returning to Australia, I worked with consulting actuaries Towers Perrin before moving into senior roles with industry superannuation funds and Norwich Union. During this time, I helped develop corporate superannuation offerings and worked closely with financial advisers across Australia.
In 2000, I established my own consultancy, Corporate Benefit Consultants, which was based in Sydney. Following the birth of our twins in 2006, my family and I returned to Brisbane, where I continued to build my advice business. In 2015, I founded Personal Wealth Consultants, where I continue to provide personalised financial advice to individuals and families.
While my experience spans superannuation, retirement planning and wealth creation, my greatest passion is personal insurance. I believe the true value of financial advice is often demonstrated when clients need it most. I work tirelessly to support clients through the claims process, advocating on their behalf and helping them achieve the best possible outcomes during what can be some of the most difficult times in their lives.
I also have a simple principle when it comes to choosing investments and investment managers for my clients: Would I be comfortable allowing my own parents to invest in it? If I believe an investment is too risky for my parents, then it is too risky for my clients. I believe clients deserve the same level of care, consideration and prudence that I would apply when making decisions for my own family.
Outside of work, I’m a proud and long-time supporter of the GPS Rugby Club in Brisbane and enjoy being involved with the club and its community. With my children now at university, my wife and I are enjoying the opportunity to travel again and experience more of the world.
I consider it a privilege to build long-term relationships with my clients and to help guide them through every stage of life’s financial journey.
